SpottswoodeEstate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Restraint combined with the classic 2021 growing season produced a shockingly energetic Cabernet. An early pick retained freshness in the wine and maintained an alcohol of just 13.9% for this warm St. Helena site. Candied violet and blackberry lead to notes of cedar and cassis with fine tannins and impressive acidity. The 2021 is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot with 20 months in barrel, 60% new . 99 points- The Wine Independent, 99 points- Robert Parker, 99 points- James Suckling.
It nearly feels redundant to introduce a winery as classic as Spottswoode, dating back 40 vintages with numerous 100-point wines. However, we are again taken aback when we try to summarize the endeavors of this winery: Certified organic since 1992, biodynamic, Regenerative Organic Certified, B Corporation certified, solar powered, TRUE Zero Waste certified, and making some of the most popular wines in Napa Valley. We recently tasted the much-anticipated 2021 vintage, and the wines were precisely what we hoped.
