This newly released 2018 Estate Red comes from Leslie's Mt. Veeder vineyard which rests between 800-1600 feet in elevation. It was a long, deliberate road for the Rudd team to get to this point in offering an Estate Red from this site, which began with the 2016 vintage. While the white varietals wowed us from the very beginning, the red varietals took their time to mature. But thanks to their in-house vineyard and winemaking team now led by Natalie Bath, their patience and perseverance has paid off. “The dark bramble fruit and subtle oak spices thread itself through the wine, creating a harmonious and elegant aromatic expression, which translates on the beginning of the palate and continues to grow in depth and power as the wine opens in the glass. The warmth of the dark cocoa nib and freshness of the tart black cherry bring an impressive cohesiveness to the midpalate which is familiar yet curiously intriguing.”
