Meteor 'Perseid' Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 - K. Laz Wine Collection
Meteor Vineyard is the confluence of an exceptional Cabernet vineyard in the southeast corner of Napa Valley, the entrepreneurial vision of internet pioneer Barry Schuler, the viticulture history and expertise of Mike Wolf and the consummate winemaking talents of Bill and Dawnine Dyer. Located on a knoll in Napa Valley’s Coombsville appellation, their unique combination of elevation, aspect and stony, rich volcanic soil produces some of Napa Valley’s most distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon. They produce just two wines, both all estate and 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Planted in 1999 to 3 distinct clone and rootstock combinations, it was immediately clear that the Schuler’s had found something special. By the time the vineyard was ready for its first harvest, prestigious names such as Etude, Vineyard 29, Arietta, Favia and Lail Vineyards were sourcing fruit from their vineyard. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Perseid has a saturated blue/black color and beautiful blueberry and blackberry fruit with some licorice, incense and camphor. It is full-bodied, elegant but pure, and dense, with a hint of minerality, but offers loads of fruit, body and extract. This wine is still youthful, and for a 2014, reasonably backward for the vintage. Give it another several years of bottle age and drink it over the following 20 years.
