Maybach'Materium' Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
A known favorite among cult Cab drinkers, this 2021 is worthy of all our cellars. Once again, it comes from a single block of Weitz Vineyard that vintner Chris Maybach and winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown have worked since Maybach’s 2004 debut vintage. It rests 1000 feet above the Silverado Trail on the eastern hillside of Oakville. The vines struggle to grow in shallow soil among boulders and stones, resulting in a deeply concentrated, elegantly textured Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Thomas notes, “This vintage is deep and dark: the color, the aromas, and the fruit density all come together with an elongated palate experience and deep flavors. The robust palate is marked by an exotic mix of dark fruit, baking spice and loamy notes, giving way to a lengthy, ethereal finish. If you’ve been a collector of this wine for years, this is one vintage that will serve as a cornerstone and reminder of what is possible from this world-class site.” 490 cases were produced.
