Matt Morris'Heritage' Napa Valley Red 2017

2017 marks the first vintage of Matt Morris working with Francoise Peschon as his winemaker for this 87-case production of 'Heritage' Red from famed Tofanelli and Shypoke Vineyards. This is a blend of Charbono with 7% Petite Sirah and 4% Malbec. Matt has become known as a big supporter of Charbono, the once widely-planted Red grape that has become almost extinct. 52 acres of Charbono is planted in Napa Valley today, with a mere twenty-seven acres planted in other regions of California. In contrast, there are about 18,000 acres currently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley and that number is obviously growing. This 2017 offers "aromas of fresh strawberries, fraises des bois. Juicy, succulent, flashy and sheer. The tannins are all up front, bold yet accessible with an hour glass shape. As Francoise will say, this is an extraverted wine that offers a lot of up-front pleasure. "This wine is truck stop pour worthy, lures you in and asks for a refill."
