Lerner Project ‘Project 18’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2018- Special Priced 3-Pack - K. Laz Wine Collection

For this 2018, Russell included wine from their Armstrong Ranch vineyard along with Oakville’s famed Tench Vineyard and Sugurloaf Ranch. It is comprised mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon with 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot. As Russell explained during our tasting, “This is a barrel selection of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Tench Vineyard in Oakville, blended with Cabernet Franc and Merlot from the Sugarloaf Vineyard in Napa. The goal with this pedigreed fruit is simple; to make the best under $100 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that money can buy.” It offers a “plush, sexy, full-bodied 2018 delivering pure dark fruits, hints of menthol and tobacco, a deep, layered texture, and a blockbuster of a finish, it leans into the hedonistic end of the spectrum yet also has balance and class. Drink this brilliant effort over the coming 15-20 years.” 690 cases were produced. 97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck.

We tasted this newer winery’s offerings last fall and are now excited to include them in our collection. Stu Lerner has been a longtime wine veteran in Napa Valley and for Lerner, he only wanted to work with Russell Bevan as his winemaker. Russell loves this heritage vineyard site and thankfully, was excited to be a part of the team. 2016 marked their first vintage coming from their estate vineyard, which used to be Jane Armstrong’s ‘Armstrong Ranch’ on Diamond Mountain. Resting at 1500 feet in elevation, this property is a testament to classic Napa Valley. It’s steeply terraced and relishes in the sun-drenched afternoons of the Diamond Mountain hillside.
