HarlanEstate Red 2017
It was just announced that Bill Harlan has given the reigns as director of Harlan and BOND to his son, Will. It will be interesting to see how the winery grows and evolves under his realm. Founded in 1984, Harlan Estate consists of 240 acres set above the fabled Oakville benchlands with the property rising in elevation from 225 to 1225 feet above sea level. Forty acres are under vine, planted to 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The first commercial vintage was 1990 and was released in 1996. This newest offering is "deep garnet-purple in color and reveals captivating iron ore, red currant jelly, cloves and crushed rocks scents with a core of warm cassis, Black Forest cake and boysenberries plus a waft of pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, grainy texture with a lively backbone and loads of earthy layers, long and mineral laced. This should be one of the longer-lived wines coming out of the 2017 vintage." -97+ Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
