DenaliEstate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
This new winery recently took center stage during a recent tasting of several new releases. Denali comes to us from a vineyard that was previously owned by Snowden Winery, located just above Joseph Phelps in the eastern hills of St. Helena. Renowned viticulturist, Jim Barbour, originally planted the vineyard for Snowden. When the new owners acquired the vineyard, they were able to bring Jim back to manage the vineyard once again and redevelop the property. The 14-acre vineyard is exclusively planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, utilizing 5 different clones in total. While it supplies fruit for other top-tier projects, they reserve a few tons for themselves, and it is crafted by Jean Hoefliger. Upon tasting, this 2021 vintage immediately impresses with its dark red fruit, smooth cedar notes, and velvety tannins. Originally from Alaska, vintners Katherine and Walt Schlotfeldt reside on-site, prioritizing the health of their surroundings. This is why Denali is sustainably hand-farmed and certified in the Fish Friendly Farming Program. Their objective is to enhance water quality, restore fish and wildlife habitats, promote soil health, prevent soil erosion, and reduce the need for harmful inputs. 212 cases were produced. 97 Points, Robert Parker Wine Advocate
