Switchback Ridge Petite Sirah 2014 Calistoga - K. Laz Wine Collection
Since their debut vintage in 1999, Switchback Ridge continues to be one of the best wineries in the Calistoga AVA, known for producing powerful and rich, red wines. Made by their founding winemaker Bob Foley, Kelly Peterson and her family rely on Bob’s great winemaking sense that is optimal for this vineyard site. Situated in the nook of the Calistoga Palisades east of Silverado Trail, Switchback Ridge (or SBR) is a special winery for us since we started working with them in their first vintage. Their Petite Sirahs continue to be one of the hard-to-find and best coming out of California. Inky black, with ripe fruit and silky tannins, this 2014 is as good as their previous vintages. Bob took an outstanding vintage and really let the fruit be itself. “You might have to tap on the bottom of the bottle a few times to get this wine out! Incredibly dark and impenetrable with wild berry and boysenberry fruit. The wine coats your palate from beginning to end. Chewy tannins are well integrated and nicely balanced by ripe, jammy fruit and lifted by ample natural juicy acidity.” 717 cases were produced.
