Sloan Estate 'Asterisk' Red 2015 - K. Laz Wine Collection

Sloan, perched on the eastern hills of Rutherford across 40 acres, overlooks the Napa Valley floor at elevations ranging from 875 to 990 feet above sea level. The 13 acres under vine were planted in 1997 on a mineral-rich, porous soil of fractured volcanic rock and sandy loam. The perfect blend of white tufa soil, a cool marine influence, and generous sun exposure forms the ideal site for growing fruit of a distinct quality and crafting exceptional wines that are compelling expressions of these elements. It was planted and continues to be farmed by renowned David Abreu and they launched with the 2001 vintage. This 2015 Asterisk is beautiful and a great example of longtime Sloan winemaker Martha McClellan’s capabilities with this vineyard. “Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Asterisk is a little closed to begin, slowly revealing blackberry pie, baked blackcurrants and mulberries on the nose with nuances of redcurrant jelly, tobacco and lavender with hints of underbrush and pencil lead. Full-bodied and with a rock-solid backbone of very firm, wonderfully ripe, grainy tannins, the palate has oodles of freshness and impressive depth, finishing long and minerally.” – Wine Advocate.
