Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 Napa Valley - K. Laz Wine Collection

Winemaker Julien Fayard is producing some of my favorite Cabernets in the $50-$100 price range and this newly released offering is another reason to start paying attention to what he’s making. As the former Director of Winemaking of Atelier Melka, Julien was responsible for day-to-day winemaking operations of all the properties that Philippe Melka was associated with so as you can imagine, he was very busy. This 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet from Purlieu comes from Beckstoffer ToKalon, Beckstoffer Missouri-Hopper, Martinez (on Pritchard Hill) and Teucer Vineyards in Coombsville. It is a “Inky purple in color, with beautiful blackberry and cassis fruit, a touch of creosote, charcoal and some subtle background oak, the wine hits the palate with authority, serious extract and richness...It is a big, rich, concentrated, mouth-filling Cabernet Sauvignon with relatively sweet tannin. It should drink well for 15-20 years, possibly longer.”
