Hobel 'The Grain' Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 - K. Laz Wine Collection
Hobel Wines began with the 2009 vintage by Cameron and Bahaneh Hobel and was and continues to be made by their longtime friend and great winemaker, Thomas Brown. The deal was made back in 1998 and it was that if Bahaneh’s husband, Cameron (who at the time was head of business development at winebid.com) were to ever start a wine brand, his good friend Thomas, who at the time was the assistant winemaker at Turley Cellars, would make his wine. This 2016 release is incredibly lush and might be Hobel's best vintage yet. Farmed by David Abreu, Thomas was able to secure fruit from Ciminelli Vineyard and 208 cases were produced. "Intensely savory and structured, the 2016 hits the palate with tremendous richness. Graphite, black cherry, sage and menthol are all pushed forward. Although the 2016 is naturally very young, the tannins are quite polished, which points to the quality and harmony of the vintage." "Beautiful and bountiful fruit came in and vinifications progressed smoothly. The resulting wines are continuing to evolve now that they are bottled and it’s evident that there are no missing components. The 2016s could possibly be the best set of wines yet from Hobel." - Thomas Rivers Brown.
