BOND Vecina Red 2012Oakville
“Bud break occurred almost one week earlier than normal at Vecina. Initially we thought this would accelerate ripening, but as the season progressed, Vecina fell back into its natural rhythm. It proceeded to ripen late in the season, but the quality from both the upper and lower slopes was extremely uniform compared to past vintages. True to type, the nose is a blend of baked clay, dried herbs, and forest floor. Upon entry, there is an immediate coolness of acidity that transitions to savory in the middle, then ultimately into a semisweet cacao-like brush of tannin on the finish. Although enjoyable now, this is a massively rich and structured Vecina that begs time to unfold all of its hidden layers.” – Cory Empting, winemaker.
